Bomb threat at Saipan Seaport

Passengers at the incoming Tinian Express ferry boat were also held for several minutes until law enforcers declared that the seaport is cleared.

In a statement, Press Secretary Charles Reyes said “the Governor’s Office was informed of a potential threat. We understand that CPA, EMO, DPS and other relevant government agencies investigated the matter and cleared the area. We understand that all issues have since been resolved. Our local government agencies are working with pertinent federal agencies to address today’s incident and ensure public safety.”

Variety learned the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the Emergency Management Office and the Department of Public Safety deployed personnel at the Saipan Seaport and bomb-sniffing dogs.

The dogs boarded and searched for explosives in all vessels, including the Tinian Express, to ensure the safety of the community.

The Saipan Seaport was cleared of any bomb threat around 3 p.m.

“Governor Fitial thanks all involved government personnel for successfully resolving this issue with professionalism and for their commitment to public safety,” Reyes said in a statement.
