“I would like to make this clear that I did not endorse any candidate and I will not endorse anybody for the congressional seat in the upcoming election,” Buckingham told members of the Rotary Club of Saipan during its meeting at the Hyatt.
The Republican congressional candidate, former Gov. Juan N. Babauta, was the club’s guest speaker.
During last week’s Rotary meeting, Buckingham had to endure jokes from Rotarians who also “fined” him for making headlines regarding the “meet and greet” event he hosted for the ruling Covenant Party’s candidate, former Rep. Joseph N. Camacho, at the governor’s residence on Aug. 28.
The Rotary Club collects “fines” from any member for just about anything such as being late, not wearing the Rotary pin, mentioning business establishments or being quoted in the newspapers.
The fines collected support the various activities of the club.
Several complaints have already been filed against Buckingham with the Office of the Public Auditor regarding the “meet and greet” event.
