Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Amires to five years’ imprisonment, all suspended, except for 10 days.
The court credited six days Amires already served at the CNMI Department of Corrections facility.
Govendo remanded Amires to Corrections after his change of plea hearing yesterday.
Amires is expected to be released from prison on Sept. 18, 2011. He will be placed on five years probation.
The court required Amires to pay a $500 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, and a probation fee.
Amires will write a letter of apology, pay in restitution in the amount to be determined, and to stay away from his victim.
He will complete 200 hours of community work service, submit to alcohol and drug assessment and complete any treatment recommended.
Assistant Attorney General Shelli Neal represented the government, while Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke served as Amires’ counsel.
Authorities responded to a burglary and theft incident at Waft by the Sea on May 24, 2011, at about 6:11 p.m.
Detective Patrick Sablan said on June 10, 2011, he met with Lawrence Twelbang at the latter’s residence in Tanapag
Twelbang told police that at about 9 p.m. on May 24, Amires came to Twelbang’s residence with a white pick-up truck and asked for assistance.
Amires asked Twelbang if he could help the defendant carry a white freezer at the Waft by the Sea, just south of Twelbang’s residence, police said.
Once at the restaurant, Amires and Twelbang carried a white freezer, an ice box, and three steel burners and placed them on the bed of the white pick-up truck operated by Amires, police said.
Amires and Twelbang then proceeded to Amires’ residence in As Matuis where the items were dropped off, police added.
