The $29.95 million collection from fees, charges and other revenues followed, and this amount included transfers from other funds from 2005 to 2007.
Taxes and fees collected from wages and salaries came in third, posting $24.43 million.
This was followed by excise taxes, with a total collection of $17.99 million; corporate income, $15.51 million; and collections transferred from other funds, $12.06 million.
Fees and taxes collected from fuel, containers and bars reached $6.37 million. Hotel occupancy contributed $5.14 million.
Tax and fees collection for the garment certification amounted to $120,000, a far cry from the $24.08 million in collections from the same industry in 2005.
From 2005 to 2009, the Department of Finance in its report to the CNMI Department of Commerce indicated a steadily decreasing collection from taxes and fees each year. The $210.29 million general fund revenue in 2005 dropped to $192.03 million in 2006. The figures went down by 15.1 percent in 2007 after posting collections of only $163.03 million.
A 15.5 percent decrease was noted after Finance reported total revenue collections of $162.26 million in 2008.
This year’s collections indicated a 4.7 percent decrease compared to the 2008 general fund revenue collections.
Throughout the five-year period, the rankings of the different categories remained almost the same in collections, with very slight movements, if there were any.
