Calling on businesses willing to train students

Tyce Mister, Marianas High School teacher/coordinator Cooperative Education and Training Program, said it is not too late to get involved.

“If you would like to offer training positions and begin interviewing students, then please just drop the teachers a quick email.  They will check the student’s interest and help set up days/times for interviews,” Mister said.

He said  students will be completing at least three interviews in their fields of career interest within the next two weeks. They will then get feedback and await for results.

Students will be trained 10 hours per week until the end of the semester or Jan. 2012.

Mister is urging the businesses/agencies to notify the teacher or student what position is being offered.

He said students considered the career fair a chance to have more employment options and acquire job hunting experience.

“It was a special treat to see at least four students as representatives of the same company with which they completed Co-Op Training before,” he said.

Mister is also encouraging businesses to provide incentive pay to students like stipend and hourly wages, but this is not a requirement.

The students will be given school credit for their cooperative training internship.

Mister again extends his thanks to all the almost 40 agencies/companies that joined the career fair on Sept. 21.
