Camacho declines CPA position

CPA’s legal counsel told Camacho that he has to leave his company and must no longer be connected with it.

Camacho turned down the job because of this requirement.

“He has to put his company in a blind trust…that’s the only time he can be considered or hired for any CPA position,” Lifoifoi said.

The board wanted to pay Camacho an annual salary of $120,000, or $50,000 less than his “asking price.”

His predecessor received only $70,000.

Yesterday, in a separate interview, Sen. Paul A. Manglona said CPA should “announce the position to get the best qualified candidate for the post.”

Manglona, R-Rota, acknowledged Camacho’s good reputation.

In this time of distress, the senator added, CPA’s chief executive officer must have financial management expertise, an impressive track record, and good rapport with the federal government.

The CPA board yesterday named Tinian airport manager Ike L. Perez as acting executive director.

Lifoifoi said the board will announce a vacancy for the executive director’s position as soon as possible.
