SEVERAL programs and projects are now awaiting Edward C. Camacho’s return when he re-assumes the position of public safety commissioner on May 31.
Gov. Juan N. Babauta met with Camacho on Tuesday along with other DPS officials, to discuss the various pending public safety programs.
“We are anxious to see the return of Mr. Camacho as commissioner,” Babauta told Variety.
Camacho was set to be released from active military duty late last month, but this was called off for some reasons.
He was supposed to be released from active duty on Feb. 27, then on March 14, March 31, April 15 and April 30. He filed an administrative leave from DPS on April 15.
“But now it appears that the Army has finally agreed to release Mr. Camacho, and he will return to reserve status by the end of the month,” Babauta said.
This decision of the Department of Defense is “welcome news” for the administration, he added.
“I will continue to serve our nation in my capacity as a reserve officer,” Camacho said.
He said it was the governor’s request to the Pentagon that expedited the processing of his release papers.
