THE police officer who was charged for fleeing the scene after causing a vehicular accident in Susupe will be indefinitely suspended.
Public Safety Commissioner Edward Camacho told reporters on Friday that he had prepared a letter notifying Police Officer Riang Yosino of his suspension pending the results of the charges filed against him by the Attorney General’s Office.
AGO and the Office of Personnel Management director will also sign the letter, Camacho said.
In the past, only the commissioner’s signature was needed in the suspension order, he said.
“But we had encountered problems involving due process, so I want to do the right thing…for the benefit of justice,” he said.
If Yosino is found innocent of the charges, Camacho said, DPS would reinstate him “as if nothing had happened.”
But if found guilty of any of the charges, Camacho said the suspension would become permanent.
Yosino was charged with three counts of accidents, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of reckless driving, one count of driving on the right side of highway, and one count of speed limits. Yosino was the driver of patrol car no. 20 that fled the scene after causing a vehicular accident on Beach Road in Susupe last March 11.
