Case of man allegedly caught fishing on Forbidden Island now with AGO

THE Department of Lands and Natural Resources has forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office the case of a man allegedly fishing on the Forbidden Island sanctuary.

Marianne C. Teregeyo, DLNR special assistant for correspondence, yesterday said the case was forwarded to AGO last week for criminal prosecution.

Two DFW conservation officers arrested Amando Dela Torre Osorio at around 11 p.m. on April 9 after he was seen fishing at the Tank Beach area, which is part of the Forbidden Island sanctuary.

This sanctuary is a protected area where absolutely no fishing of any type is allowed, DLNR said. Recovered from Osorio were 40 lbs. of fish, lobsters, crabs and an octopus.

In related news, the man caught in possession of 45 dead Marianas fruit bats has almost completed his community service period totaling 160 hours, Teregeyo said.

Isidro F. Castro was also fined $500.

Fish and Wildlife Director Richard B. Seman ordered Castro to complete the community service hours within five months.
