CEBU Pacific, a Philippine international airline, is considering a Manila-Saipan flight service via Koror, Palau.
According to Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, he will meet with Cebu Pacific officials in Koror to discuss the viability of the route.
“Cebu Pacific is very much interested to do a direct flight here, and it’s also exploring the Palau market,” Benavente said.
Benavente and other local government officials earlier met with Cebu Pacific officials in Manila to discuss a Manila-Saipan flight service.
After the Manila meeting, Cebu Pacific followed up on the proposal.
Acting Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Vicky I. Benavente said Cebu Pacific sent a letter expressing its intention to do a CNMI market analysis.
“We’re helping them with that,” she said.
CNMI officials also hope to get Philippine Airlines back to Saipan.
The entry of more airlines is expected to significantly lower air fare for CNMI passengers.
Officials said the airlines’ entry, coupled with a less restrictive immigration policy, could allow more tourists from the Philippines to visit the CNMI.
