EDUCATION Commissioner Lawrence Camacho, Ed.D. issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
“Dear Public School System Families, Staff, and Stakeholders. At around 11:30 a.m. today, Chacha Ocean View Middle School initiated a school lockdown to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and individuals on campus. This is in response to an unauthorized campus entry. The Department of Public Safety was called immediately and the school executed emergency procedures.
“At around 1:40 p.m., the school transitioned from a lockdown to a lockout, prohibiting the entrance of unauthorized visitors on campus. To ensure continuous safety, DPS will remain on campus until 5 p.m. today. Classes remain in operation for the remainder of the week with extra security measures in place.
“The PSS and COVMS administrations take the safety of our students, staff, and stakeholders very seriously, and we continue to ensure that we uphold this priority. We thank our stakeholders and community partners for their patience, assistance, and cooperation. For the most up-to-date and accurate information, go to https://www.cnmipss.org/.”
