Chalan Galaide resident complains of week-long water outage

The resident, a retired government employee who declined to be identified, said he and three of his neighbors called up the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. recently and was told that there was low water pressure in their area, hence the water outage.

Water service in Chalan Galaide used to be scheduled from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, he said.

CUC also reminded them of the ongoing load shedding schedule of the utilities agency, causing water service interruption in Chalan Galaide.

The resident said the power outage schedule in their area is usually from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a morning power outage on Saturdays.

“Why don’t [CUC] just put a generator” to operate the water pump?” he said.

He made follow-up calls to CUC’s trouble desk in the past three days to ask when the water service in their place would be restored.

Nobody was answering his calls, he said.

According to the resident, he has to fetch water from his water tank and bring it into his house for his family’s daily chores.

He estimates that the supply in his water tank will still be good for the next one or two days.

According to CUC’s water division, the problem in Chalan Galaide is due to the ongoing water project on Capital Hill which requires the rehabilitation of a million-gallon water reservoir.

Earlier, CUC water division manager Mariano R. Iglecias announced that the water project woujld affect Chalan Galaide, Capital Hill, Wireless Ridge, Talofofo, Tapochau, and I Denni.

CUC water division said that they were “putting together a water schedule” for areas affected by the water outage.

Chalan Galaide is located near Fananganan Hill and Navy Hill, and southwest of Capital Hill.
