CHC: Shooting victim ‘doing well’

As of yesterday, to his knowledge, Brostrom said no one had yet informed the child, Dolores Naputi, that her father and sister were fatally shot.

Her five-year-old cousin, Vince Larry Deleon Guerrero Rosario II, was also among the fatalities.

“She is doing well and she has been moved from ICU to the pediatric ward and his condition has been downgraded from critical to guarded,” he added.

The child may be discharged later this week, he said, and the pediatric team is confident that Naputi will continue to get better.

“She’s eating okay and she’s talking,” Brostrom said.

The Korean tourist who was seriously wounded was transported immediately to South Korea on Saturday night and taken to the Seoul National University Hospital, he said.

The Korean was stable when discharged from the Commonwealth Health Center, he said.

“We expect that he will recover other than the probable loss of his lower extremities. When we did a CT scan there’s an extensive damage caused by that shoot, and if the spinal cord was transected it’s cut and it’s quite unlikely that he will regain the use of his legs in the future. It’s very sad.”

The seven other tourists shot by Zhongren Li, 42, were discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon and most of them have returned to Korea, Brostrom said.

He said the hospital’s mental health staff and the Community Guidance Center have provided counseling to the families of the victims.

He encouraged those who are affected by the tragic event to seek counseling.

“People should not be afraid and ashamed to ask for some counselor. Particular those who are close to those who were brutally murdered,” he said.

John Hirsh, American Red Cross-NMI chapter executive director, told Variety they are coordinating with the Public Health Department and the Community Guidance Center to provide workshops and counseling services to affected individuals.

He said they have a counselor who has specialized training in post-traumatic reactions and can help individuals and families cope with their feelings.
