CHCC introduces telehealth-enabled capsule endoscopy service

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation is proud to announce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the critical shortage of gastrointestinal or GI diagnostic services in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. In collaboration with GI Digital and the practice of Dr. Paul Alfred Muna-Aguon in Guam, CHCC will introduce a telehealth-enabled capsule endoscopy or CE service in Saipan. This new service will provide local access to advanced GI diagnostics and care, transforming the way gastrointestinal diseases are diagnosed and managed in the CNMI.

“This initiative represents a significant step toward improving healthcare access and outcomes in our region,” said Esther Muna, CEO of CHCC. “We recognize the ongoing healthcare disparities that our rural residents face, and we are excited to partner with GI Digital and Dr. Paul Alfred Muna-Aguon’s practice in Guam to deliver cutting-edge technology that can transform GI healthcare in the CNMI.”

This telehealth-enabled service will allow patients to undergo capsule ingestion in local clinics, with video footage analyzed remotely by specialists in Guam. By adapting this technology for local needs, CHCC is taking a significant step toward bridging the healthcare gap and addressing the longstanding health disparities that affect CNMI residents.

The capsule endoscopy service, part of the Tele-GI infrastructure implemented in Guam, will offer a non-invasive, advanced diagnostic tool that provides real-time video analysis of the gastrointestinal tract. By enabling remote consultations and video analysis, patients in the CNMI will receive high-quality diagnostics and expert recommendations without the need to travel off-island.

The introduction of telehealth-enabled capsule endoscopy will improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce delays, and ultimately result in better health outcomes for the residents of the CNMI.

To ensure a sustainable service, CHCC has also submitted a grant application to fund the purchase of telehealth-enabled capsule endoscopy equipment for the CNMI.

CHCC is committed to innovate healthcare services, expanding access to care, and improving the overall health and well-being of the community.
