Rose Chan of Canton Restaurant said Oct. 1 was the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China but they conducted the event on Saturday to get a bigger participation.
Chan said they invited guests to help demonstrate the process of how to make dumplings and noodles.
“The children learned a lot because we had them try their hand in making dumplings and noodles, then they ate what they made,” Chan said.
“It was not only educational but a fun experience for the children and their parents, too,” Chan said.
She said Chinese dumpling, which is also served during other Chinese festivals and holidays, is an important part of the Chinese culture.
“The demonstration was one way of preserving a part of the Chinese culture especially for the children who were born here,” Chan said.
The dumpling and noodle making demonstrations is becoming more popular each year and is getting the interest of children and parents who are not Chinese.
The event was held at the Canton Restaurant in Garapan from 9:30 a.m. to noontime on Saturday.
Chan said they may hold similar demonstrations on Christmas or on Chinese New Year.
