Chinese students to meet with governor

THE six Chinese students whose passports were confiscated by immigration authorities will personally ask Gov. Juan N. Babauta to help them get back their travel documents and be allowed to take the U.S. nursing examination.

Eucon International School President Christian Wei said he will accompany the six students in their meeting with the governor. The students, who are all from Shanghai, are temporarily residing at Eucon’s dormitory.

Wei said they are not pursuing any legal action at this point because they “want to solve this case in the right manner.”

However, he said the Immigration Division had not returned the passports of the students despite a legal expert’s statement that the confiscation is a clear violation of their right to international travel.

“They said they want (Eucon) to have a license first. But then when we were issued the license a few months ago, they didn’t want to give the students their student visas,” Wei said.

According to Wei, the students are very disappointed over the turn of events, but are still hopeful that the governor would be able to help them.
