Keene-Villagomez said this is the third year that they set up the CNMI Christmas tree which stands in front of the multi-purpose center in Susupe.
“We wish to spread holiday cheer and make everyone feel the spirit of the holidays,” Keene-Villagomez told the Variety.
She added that the eight reindeer installed at the foot of the Christmas tree were recycled from the decorations of the now-defunct La Fiesta Mall in Tanapag.
Together with the lighting of the tree, the light was also switched on for 40 attractive sculptures installed alongside the road from Garapan to Chalan Piao.
Keene-Villagomez said the lights for the Christmas tree and the light sculptures on the roadsides will be turned on from 6 to 10 p.m. everyday, and they will stay lighted all night during Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
She said it took her staff about four days to mount the Christmas tree and completed putting on the trimmings in time for the illumination on Friday night.
Keene-Villagomez added that a number of businesses have made contributions this year to make the Christmas project possible.
“We invite the community to enjoy this tradition as we celebrate the holidays with this simple, yet meaningful, reminder of the hope that this time of the year traditionally brings,” she said.
Keene-Villagomez added that the Christmas tree is just one of the projects she spearheads to spread holiday cheer to the islands.
