Former Tinian Sen. David M. Cing urged Crisostimo, D-Saipan, to join their fellow Democrats in rallying behind his candidacy.
Asked for comment, Crisotimo said: “Best of luck to him.”
Democratic Party Chairman Manuel Sablan said they decided to endorse Cing as their official congressional candidate after Crisostimo failed to pay the $2,500 primary registration fee.
Crisostimo said the fundraising campaign period had not started yet, thus, he wasn’t able to come up with the money.
Nonetheless, Crisostimo pushed ahead with his congressional bid as an Independent candidate. He officially filed his candidacy on Friday.
Yesterday, Cing wrote Crisostimo and urged him to support his election bid instead of fighting against him.
“I am appealing to you as a last minute attempt to reunify the Democratic Party. After all, you were the one who suggested very strongly back in June 2008 when you emphasized that we should support each other no matter who was selected by our party,” Cing said.
He added that Crisostimo’s decision will affect the Democratic Party’s chances in this year’s historic election.
“The fact that you are running as an Independent [candidate] and the fact that you did run [as a] National Democrat did very little to unify the Democrats. I am asking you once again, for the sake of your constituents to join me and make your place here in the Democratic Party so that we can all be victorious in November,” he said.
Crisostimo has registered with the U.S. Democratic Party’s Nevada office.
