CK store catches fire

Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said DPS central received a call about 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 4 reporting a structural fire at Ling Ling Store in Chalan Kanoa.  

He said Fire units that were dispatched to the scene observed flames within the building and heavy smoke emitting from the rear of the store.

He said the Fire Prevention Unit who was summoned to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Based on Fire Investigator Daniel R. Suel’s preliminary investigation,  Tarkong said the cause of the fire was from an electrical short circuit.

Tarkong said that investigations showed the fire was limited to the storage area at the back of the store. He said that most of the damages observed by investigators were caused by moderate heat and smoke damage.

Tarkong added that the fire was brought under control at about 2:18 a.m.

“There were no injuries reported on scene, and the case is closed,” Tarkong said.

On Monday evening, an abandoned house at Kanon Drive in As Matuis was completely engulfed in fire but the Fire Department has yet to establish its cause.

He said fire investigators observed that the wooden structure had already collapsed to the ground.
