Tony Benavente, the mayor’s public information officer, said Ramon Crisostimo is the new member who was appointed last June.
The board members, he said, serve for only one year but the mayor can reappoint them.
Board chairman Juan Borja and member Manuel C. Sablan decided to serve for another term, Benavente added.
He said the mayor is asking the board to be impartial in its decisions, especially regarding the protests filed by some cockfight bettors.
Saipan will have a new mayor in January, but this will not affect the board, he added.
Next week, the board is expected to officially convene and address the concerns of cockfight arena owner Maryann Calvo and the United Cockers and Breeders Federation, Saipan headed by Jimmy Pascual.
Calvo has asked the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the illegal cockfights at the residence of Pascual.
Pascual has denied the allegation and is a contemplating the filing of counter charges against Calvo for what he described as a sub-standard arena and the hiring of unqualified referee.
Earlier, Gene San Gabriel, United Cockers and Breeders Federation vice president, said they have filed three different protests with the board since June this year.
The protests of Henry Gallera, Jean Caday, Eddie Yalong and Kevin Manansala stemmed from the “unfair” judgments of an “incompetent referee,” San Gabriel said.
