Cockfight federation to file counter complaint

“There’s nothing true in her allegations,” he told Variety.

Pascual said his group welcomes any investigation to shed light on what he described as Calvo’s “unfounded accusation” that illegal cockfighting took place at his residence in San Vicente.

He said he is also preparing a reply to the complaint and a counter complaint against Calvo.

But instead of filing their complaint with the mayor’s office, the federation will go directly to the AG’s office because “there’s no investigation at the mayor’s office,” he said.

Pascual said their complaint will ask the AGO to investigate the unsafe and substandard cockfight facility of Calvo’s arena in As Gonno and its uncertified referee.

He said his group has been asking the mayor’s office to help resolve their protest by compelling the Saipan Cockfight Board to look into their case.

Earlier, the mayor’s public information officer Tony Benavente said the board had yet to convene because its membership was incomplete.

Mayor Juan B. Tudela said he needed to appoint one member to replace Juan Borja, the board chairman.

There are two names recommended to fill the vacant post.

For his part, the newly appointed board member, Ramon Crisostimo, had yet to take his oath of office.

According to the mayor, the protest cannot be addressed unless the board convenes.

The bet money cited in the protest is not with the mayor’s office but with the management of the cockfight arena, the mayor added.
