Twenty-four graduates marched out of the college main building to receive their associate degrees and certificates.
Of the graduates, 12 are classroom teachers who completed their requirements for associate degree of science in teaching for elementary schools.
Two received certificate of achievement in construction and electricity while the remaining 10 received certificate in general studies.
In his remarks, College President Spencin James highlighted some of the institution’s achievements during the past year which included full accreditation as well as getting the college in a position to open a full degree program in nursing by spring 2010.
James said 184 students across the nation’s college campuses were graduating with the 24 from Yap.
Gov. Sebastian Anefal congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to continue pursuing their dreams.
He also warned them not to “oversleep” if they want their dreams to come true.
He said the state of Yap is constantly in need of a skilled workforce.
While job opportunities may be limited in the public sector, the private sector is where hope is for further development, he added.
Anefal encouraged the remaining students to study hard as the college continues to improve its instructional facilities.
Attending the commencement were various state officials along with the college’s board of regents and senior management.
