Committee changes sharing scheme in Liberation Queen ticket proceeds

Liberation Queen Committee chairwoman Vinycia Seman said each candidate is required to sell or purchase a minimum of $300 in raffle tickets by the first counting.

The required amount will not be counted as part of the proceeds raised by the candidate, she said.

“After the final counting, for every ticket sold subsequent to the initial $300 required amount, the candidate will receive 10 to 20 percent of the proceeds depending on the amount she has raised,” Seman added.

If a candidate raised  from $301 to $4,999 she will get 10 percent while her sponsor will get 5 percent of the proceeds.

If the amount is from $5,000 to $9,999, the candidate will get 15 percent and the sponsor, 7 percent.

A candidate will get 20 percent if she can sell $10,000 or more and her sponsor will get 10 percent.

Seman said the Liberation Day Committee will receive the rest of the funds raised by each candidate.

They changed the sharing scheme to allow the committee to meet the funding requirements in holding the pageant, she added.

There will be three separate counting of tickets, and the candidate or her authorized representative must be present, she said.

Based on the entry rules and regulations, a candidate is allowed to secure one sponsor which could be a business, corporation, CNMI licensed and bonafide non-profit organization, parish or school.

The 2011 Miss CNMI Liberation Queen candidate must be:

• Born a female, a U.S. citizen or has been residing in the CNMI for at least six months prior to April 15, 2011;

• At least 15 years of age by April 15, 2011 and not more than 21 years old by July 4, 2011;

• Single, never have been married, have no children, and must not be in a cohabitant relationship;

• Of good moral character, and,

• Must never have been arrested or charged, suspected or involved in criminal acts.

During their reign, the Liberation Queen and Royal Princess must participate in some of the mayor’s official functions or community events, Seman said.

“If the winning Liberation Day candidate cannot fulfill her queen duties or violates any rule set in the guidelines, she will immediately relinquish her title, crown, scepter and off-island travels,” she added.

The Royal Princess will then be the new Queen, she said.

Seman said they have started distributing applications for candidates.

These are available for pick up at the mayor’s office at the Afetnas Building in San Antonio during working hours.
