Community urged to join international coastal cleanup

Coral Reef Task Force point of contact Fran Castro and Lisa Eller of  DEQ last week urged the members of the Saipan Rotary Club and the whole community  to join the cleanup.

Eller said the international coastal cleanup is one of the yearly activities in which the CNMI takes part to take responsibility for the environment.

Eller said one day spent in helping clean the oceans is one of the easiest ways to protect marine resources and preserve them for future generations.

DEQ said it will coordinate with the different groups that will be joining and designate a pick-up point for the trash collected.

Participation in the cleanup is just one of the many activities DEQ, CRMO and other stakeholders in protecting and preserving the environment are doing each year.

Other activities include revegetation in several areas like Rota and Laolao Bay.

To sign-up for the cleanup or for more information, contact Rachel Zuercher at 664-8315, 664-8305 or email  [email protected].
