Yesterday, P&A Corporation represented by its president Kim Hong Kyun signed a memorandum of agreement with Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores.
Flores said the partnership with P&A is part of his office’s mission to maintain road safety.
“The tree trimmings will be turned into mulch with the aid of shredding machines. The mulch will then be used for roadsides, public parks, tourist sites, government building premises, schools and even private land beautification projects,” he said.
The signing of the MOA was witnessed by Department of Public Works Secretary Martin Sablan, DPW special assistant for operation Ben Castro, Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power transmission and distribution manager Gary Camacho, mayor’s office special adviser Henry Hofschneider and P&A Corp. general manager Joo Ho Joon.
Sablan expressed his appreciation to the corporation, saying “it’s important to keep the island beautiful and safe from any danger of unwanted trees.”
The mayor said the removal and trimming of trees that pose a danger to power lines and motorists has been the concern of his office, DPW and CUC.
Camacho said it has been the goal of CUC to ensure that its power lines are cleared of tree branches to continually provide efficient supply of power.
P&A will also help Saipan in its agricultural development, Kim said.
P&A is into recycling green waste that is transformed into a variety of uses that are environmentally safe, he added.
P&A will coordinate all tree removal and trimming jobs with the mayor’s office and follow all local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
The corporation will always ensure that areas around the tree removal and trimming work are left clean and clear of debris after performing its job.
P&A, moreover, will use its own equipment and will not seek any form of monetary or non-monetary reimbursements from the mayor’s office for expenses incurred in the performance of the MOA.
Flores said prior to any tree removal and trimming by P&A, it will always seek and secure written permission from the affected landowners.
