Consultant re-drafts environmental assessment report for Lake Susupe boardwalk project

The environmental assessment report was submitted just recently, but the Department of Public Works returned it to the consulting firm because it was too broad, according to Technical Services Division Director Joe Inos Jr.

An educational boardwalk trail through the wetlands of Lake Susupe, the project will  consist of a 1,000 linear feet access road.

The project will also include a parking area, a raised boardwalk, interpretative sign stations, rest areas and viewing towers.

It is funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Like the report for the Kalabera Cave project, Inos said the environment assessment for Lake Susupe is supposed to focus on the environment.

Inos said they asked the consulting firm to include in the report everything they learned about the site.

DPW wants to maintain the lake’s original features as much as possible and will implement only the least invasive alternatives throughout the site, he said.

With regards to the timeframe of the project, Inos said it will  depend on the environmental assessment report.

DPW will then review the appropriateness of the proposed timeframe when the request for proposal is being processed, Inos said.
