Convicted robber faces deportation

THE Attorney General’s Office and the Division of Immigration Service have filed a deportation case against a man who served 18 months in jail for robbing a businesswoman at her residence in Chalan Kiya.

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman ordered Victormarie Reyes Santa Monica to appear on May 16 to show cause why he should not be deported from the CNMI.

According to court papers submitted by Immigration Investigator John Taitano and AGO, Santa Monica has been an overstaying alien for the past four years and one month.

Taitano in his declaration stated that the respondent’s non-resident workers entry permit expired in July 1997.

Santa Monica was not renewed by his employer and that no new employer application was submitted to the Department of Labor and Immigration to authorize him to remain in the commonwealth, Taitano said.

Santa Monica applied for the limited immunity program in 1998, but failed to secure an employer to file an employment application, Taitano said.

Santa Monica has no pending labor case, the investigator added.

Last February, the Superior Court sentenced Santa Monica to one year and six months imprisonment in connection with the robbery case.

Santa Monica was given credit for time served.

He and co-defendants Allan Ermino Rodeo, Joselito Abaya Ambat and Glenn L. Quiobe were tagged as the suspects in the robbery that occurred at the residence of Junko Sakai in the afternoon of Oct. 9, 2000.

Santa Monica entered into a plea agreement with the government. He pleaded guilty to robbery, burglary, theft, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
