POLICE officers and lifeguards rescued a couple from a sail boat that capsized along the reef line area near Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio on Sunday.
Tomohito Sugano sustained minor abrasions on his lower left knee. His wife, Asayo Sugano, was not hurt, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.
Police learned that the couple rented a 10 to 13-foot sail boat from PIC. The boat was swept by winds past the safety perimeter buoys.
The boat reached the hazardous zone and capsized outside the reef. The couple were wearing life vests.
Five PIC lifeguards then entered the surf zone aboard kayaks. They managed to put the couple on a kayak. Tomohito Sugano, however, was swept out again along with a life guard when the kayak capsized during its re-entry into the surf.
The DPS Boating Safety Unit later headed toward the southern end of Agingan Point where they spotted the five men in the water.
The five were transported safely to Smiling Cove Marina.
