Court places mariner on probation for misuse of federal license

Visiting Judge David O. Carter of the Central District of California said Drayton  Crestwell Reeves is also required to pay $100 special assessment fee, and not to drink any alcohol while aboard a fishing vessel.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler was the prosecutor while Loren Sutton served as the defense attorney.

In July 2006, the prosecution said, Reeves presented an expired marine merchant license which he altered  when he applied for a job.

In July 2009, Reeves told the U.S. Coast Guard that he had a valid merchant marine officer’s license, but it was not in his possession because it was under renewal.

The prosecution said Reeves’ license expired in 2001 and he altered it when he submitted it in applying for a job.
