Court reduces bail against man in domestic violence case

Judge Kenneth L. Govendo granted the motion for bail modification filed by the Public Defender’s Office on behalf of Fernandez, 40.

The court allowed Fernandez to post 10 percent of the $1,500 bail order, and to issue a $1,350 unsecured bond.

Fernandez will be released to a third party custodian.

Govendo directed Fernandez to not have any contact with his wife, the victim, and to not consume any alcohol “at all.”

Police said the couple had an argument about their house being messy that led Mr. Fernandez to push his wife from behind several times. She eventually fell to the floor.

Mr. Fernandez also threatened he would beat up his wife, police said.

According to the police, Mr. Fernandez would always grab his wife’s cell phone every time she would report about their fight to the police.

She told police that in 2003 she and her husband also had a domestic violence incident, “but she tries to forget about it because whenever she thinks about that incident she tends to cry,” police said.
