In his affidavit, Detective George Fleming David said Shabbo C. Sablan was positively identified as the one who stole copper wire in Dandan.
On July 21, a concerned citizen informed police that Sablan and his cohorts were stealing copper wire in the area and were using a Toyota Yaris as a getaway vehicle.
“This caller further told the police sergeant that these guys operate during 12 midnight in the early morning to sunrise,” David said.
The next day, a sting operation was conducted and Sablan was arrested.
He was booked and detained for criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit theft.
The CNMI government has enacted a law imposing harsher penalties on people convicted of stealing copper wires, but copper wire thefts are still being reported to the police.
