Courtyard construction set

Last week, members of the Saipan Municipal Council and other relevant officials met at the Manamko Center to discuss the construction of the two-phase project.

Officials from the Department of Public Works, Zoning Office, Urban Forestry, and the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) who make up the planning team are collaborating with the council for the courtyard project.

Phase 1, which includes the construction of the parking lane, a sidewalk, perimeter lightning and storm water reserve, is scheduled to begin late this year.

Phase 2, which covers the memorial courtyard, the gateway and other facilities, is targeted to begin early next year, Council Chairwoman Antonia Tudela announced during their meeting.

The courtyard, also known as the Kios Ku project, is the first leadership memorial park to be constructed in the CNMI. The park will be established to highlight and recognize the contributions of past and present leaders of the islands.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for next month.
