Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council Chairman Ramon B. Camacho said they already collected a “good number” of names.
He said the committee also invited former leaders to get the names of other leaders in the post-war period and pre-commonwealth era.
“We don’t want to miss any names,” he added.
The committee continues to ask members of the community to nominate past and present leaders, he said.
The names of the selected former leaders will be displayed at the proposed courtyard project in Chalan Kanoa across from the U.S. Post Office.
“We encourage former leaders to join the committee so we can brainstorm and identify more individuals,” Camacho said.
He said the committee will “discreetly” review the names of nominees to avoid possible conflicts.
They will also work with different agencies that have historical documents and records.
The committee has yet to decide whether to include appointed persons that held high positions during the pre-commonwealth era.
The committee said, the Saipan leaders who will be recognized are from the Naval period, the Trust Territory days and the commonwealth era.
