Incumbent Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and his running mate Lt. Governor Eloy Inos are the Covenant Party’s official candidates.
In a statement, Camacho said the Covenant team wants to see a real primary between the competing GOP tickets — Rep. Heinz Hofschneider and his running mate Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, and former Gov. Juan N. Babauta and running mate Board of Education Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero.
“I urge all Covenant Party members to respect the Republican Party primary process and not interfere to skew the normal result of such a primary among Republicans,” said Camacho.
He said the Covenant Party “should not artificially distort the results to favor one side over the other.”
“We want to see the real results, the real strength of the candidates,” he said and stressed that the Covenant Party doesn’t want to speculate on who the weaker or stronger candidate might be, or which GOP slate would be “better” for the ruling party’s standard bearer.
“We will stick to our plans no matter who wins the GOP primary,” he added.
Party official Alvaro Santos added, “We don’t want to play those games. We will compete honorably.”
