THE Commonwealth Ports Authority’s board of directors on Friday discussed Tinian Marine Stevedore Inc.’s request for exclusive rights to provide stevedoring and terminal services at the Port of Tinian.
The request was first made in 2021 and a follow-up request letter was sent to CPA in March 2024.
In the letter, Tinian Marine Stevedore Managing Director Michael T. Demapan informed CPA Executive Director Leo B. Tudela that they are formally requesting exclusive rights.
Demapan also provided Tudela a proposal that the company believes is fair and reasonable for both CPA and the Tinian Marine Stevedore.
Demapan said Tinian Marine Stevedore remains committed to provide stevedoring and terminal services to support the Tinian community.
He noted that they had previously requested for exclusivity in 2021. In response, CPA conducted a public hearing on Tinian on Oct. 19, 2021.
However, Demapan said, “We have not received any response from CPA on the outcome of the hearing. Thus we hope to hear from CPA on this latest request.”
