CPUC to review utility rates next month

According to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s Executive Order 2010-01, which continues to place CUC under a state of emergency, the rates will be reviewed this March.

CPUC should receive a rate case presentation from CUC’s consulting team on how much the public should be charged so the agency can get full cost recovery.

CUC has begun the process of hiring a chief financial officer as mandated in one of the federal court’s stipulated orders.

CUC said its accounting and billing departments are undermanned but it’s in the process of addressing this problem to further improve the collection process.

“What becomes very important is CUC’s capability to provide the CPUC with accurate and timely financial and accounting information. But such reporting is not possible without a competent, trained staff of accounting and financial experts at CUC, and a properly empowered executive director to lead them,” the governor said.

Some residents believe that CPUC will likely increase CUC rates now that the elections are over.
