In a letter to Villagomez, Cruz said: “After carefully analyzing and piecing the puzzle we came to the conclusion that you intentionally and deliberately set up Taotao Tano to be accused and blamed for missing pieces of evidence crucial to the prosecution and conviction of a close associate, affiliate, friend and relative and a political constituent.”
Cruz said Villagomez “collaborated and conspired” with Office of the Personnel Management Director Mathilde Rosario and Housing Officer Ben Santos.
Variety was unable to get comments from these officials yesterday.
He was referring to the permission granted to Taotao Tano to use one of the government-owned buildings on Capital Hill.
Last month, Villagomez told Taotao Tano that it could use as its office the former home of Pamela Mathis, the former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. public information officer, near the office of Washington Rep. Pedro A. Tenorio.
A week later, the administration rescinded the use of office space, stating that the Attorney General’s Office was storing evidence at the building.
The administration also said that three chairs were missing from the building.
Cruz said Villagomez has been trying to get rid of Attorney General Mathew Gregory “for some personal reasons.”
“Your personal affiliations, connections and relationship with the former Teno administration [and former Gov.] Froilan Tenorio are evidence that a conspiracy has taken place, and Taotao Tano was the scapegoat,” Cruz told Villagomez.
Cruz said Taotao Tano was allowed to use government facility when the governor was off island.
He said only Santos knew the whereabouts of the attorney general’s evidence storage facility.
He said when Taotao Tano arrived at the facility it was already unlocked and the doors were wide open.
According to the Taotao Tano leader, Santos failed to give the key because, he told Cruz, Mathis never returned it.
Cruz said Santos gave them permission to use the chairs and some gambling tables for office use.
On May 28, Cruz said he was investigated by Juanette Atalig of the Attorney General’s Investigative Unit about the missing evidence.
He said he was told by Atalig that the missing evidence was very important in pending case.
The following day, Taotao Tano filed a complaint with the Department of Public Safety for criminal trespass against the Attorney General’s Office and its investigative unit for improperly entering the facility without their consent.
