Cruz: Sablan misrepresenting locals

“Kilili seem to be forgetting that those types of issues

cannot apply to the CNMI for we have a Covenant in place, protecting our commonwealth from the U.S. Congress’ acting unilaterally on legislation that would affect our people,” Cruz said.

He said Taotao Tano and other local residents are opposed to Sablan’s immigration agenda.

Cruz is also disappointed that representatives of indigenous people  were not given a chance to meet with the U.S. congressional delegation.

Instread, foreign organizations were granted the opportunity, Cruz said.

He believes that foreign organizations have been “fallacious” in their advocacy for improved status.

These guest workers, he said, would not  have been able to stay on the islands for years if not for the “generosity” of the local people.

Sablan declined to comment, saying “that is Cruz’s opinion.”
