CUC board cancels meeting

The board was supposed to discuss cost-cutting measures, preparedness, and reduction-in-force, among other topics, he added.

Camacho said CUC management will communicate with the board through teleconference.

As of Monday, Camacho said there had been a reduction in CUC services and operation.

“I don’t know all the details of the impact yet,” he said, but added that island’s overall power demand is down to 33 megawatts from 41 megawatts.

Many offices and businesses have shut down, he noted.

As for CUC, some of its essential offices, including customer service and the executive director’s office, remain open, Camacho said.

In case of power and water problems, CUC has a standby team that will respond immediately, he added.

“Basic utility services must be available all the time and are more critical in these times of uncertainty,” Camacho said.

“We will continue to try to find ways to assist our community members to ensure that the utility services they need are available,” he added.
