CUC engineer resigns

In her letter to CUC acting Executive Director Utu Abe Malae, Lazaro said: “I extend my sincerest thank you for the operation field crew who held hands with me with all their support through all the years of my service at CUC.”

Malae said he was impressed by Lazaro’s dedication and knowledge.

“Your skills can be put to good use by any employer and you would be foolish to turn down a good offer. More importantly, you have your family to look after,” Malae said in an e-mail to Lazaro.

Lazaro, who is from the Philippines, told the Variety she will transfer to a private firm.

She said she wanted to stay at CUC but the “hindrances of being a foreign worker are too much.”

She added, “The uncertainty of the working status of the alien workers in government is one of the reasons” for her resignation.

Lazaro has been working for CUC since Sept. 2002.

Her responsibilities include the development of grant projects, as well as the supervision of infrastructure, water and wastewater projects.

CUC human resources manager Frankie Cepeda said most of the contracts of their 30 foreign workers will expire in August.

CUC, he added, will “try” to renew their contracts while also accommodating local applicants.
