CUC explains ‘emergency’ power outages

The outages affected feeders 1 and 3.

The power interruption for feeder 1 started at 3 p.m. and ended at 4 p.m. Feeder 3 was then “de-energized” for needed repairs and  was restored at 5:10 p.m.

Camacho said there was  a radio announcement about the power outages.

The linemen, he added, performed critical repairs by replacing damaged power pole hardware located in front of Power Plant 4 in Puerto Rico.

One terminal lug on feeder 1 and one pole top pin on feeder 3 were replaced, he added.

Camacho said power plant employees identified a hot spot due to the damaged hardware on a power pole directly in front of the facility on Tuesday.

After further inspection, he said, it was determined that repairs were required.

Because there were schools in the affected areas, the outages were scheduled for 3 p.m. to minimize any inconvenience to the classes, he added.

Feeder 1 includes the Commonwealth Health Center, Puerto Rico, Lowe and Upper Navy Hill, Upper and Lower Chinatown and Kristo Rai Church.

Feeder 3 covers As Felipe, Upper Chinatown, Gaulo Rai, Quartermaster Road, Chalan Laulau to the Chalan Kiya intersection and the traffic lights on Chalan Pale Arnold Road.

“CUC apologies for any inconvenience the power interruptions may have imposed on the community and their consumers and will continue to work diligently to minimize future interruptions,” Camacho said.
