CUC has new management philosophy, says Megarr

“Instead of having 14 to 15 violations, as was the case a year ago, we only have one,” he added.

Last year, CUC had violations  in February, March, June, July, August, September, October and December for Saipan only.

Before, Megarr said, CUC reported lots of bacterial hits because chlorine was not consistent, and more sewage was flowing into the street and in their homes.

The CUC Water Quality Report states that Tinian had two violations in April and August 2008 while no violation was reported by the CUC Rota Public Water System as only one sample of the 45 samples it collected throughout the year contained total coliform.

When the water and wastewater division implemented its “new management philosophy” in the past nine months, its services improved, Megarr said.

“As we continue to pressurize our system, eliminating leaks and bringing new wells on, we’re finding ourselves in a position where we can start a plan for improving the quality of our water,” he told Variety.

He said as part of its reorganization plan, CUC implemented a program that focuses in two areas — disinfection on the water side and improvement of lift and pump stations for  wastewater needs.

Under the new management philosophy, he added, they assigned specific individuals and supervisors tasked with specific jobs.

Megarr said they have new staff who manage the people responsible for the sites. CUC also assigned specific individuals to specific areas they are responsible for.
