CUC has already submitted for review photos of the wooden poles and information about their locations to the Office of the Governor.
A project application will then be prepared for FEMA.
The wooden poles to be replaced including 1,051 on Saipan, 112 on Tinian, and 307 on Rota will have a project cost of $9.6 million.

Camacho also reported to the CUC board that the power division has been informed by the Capital Improvement Project Office of the Office of the Governor that three out of four underground power distribution projects of the public utility have not been approved for funding under FEMA’s hazard mitigation program. The disapproval was due to a lack of equity as determined by a cost-benefit analysis conducted by the federal agency.
Camacho said CUC is also still awaiting federal funding approval for its other projects involving the Commonwealth Ports Authority-Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport, the Tinian healthcare facility, and the CPA facility also on Tinian.
