A contraption has been installed by the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation at one of the non-compliant sites in the Garapan revitalization project area.

SOME businesses in the Garapan Revitalization Project area have been cited for non-compliance with the rule requiring water/sewer connection, Variety learned.

“Our CUC Fats, Oil, and Grease program or FOG coordinator and team have been working with the business establishments in [the] area,” CUC Deputy Executive Director for Water and Wastewater Kevin Watson said on Thursday.

He said notices of violation have been issued but “open communication continues.”

“One of the establishments submitted plans for an oil/grease separator approved by CUC’s acting chief engineer,” Watson said. “This has been communicated to the establishment who were also put on notice that they must complete the installation as soon as feasible or face financial penalties.”

According to another official who requested anonymity, a restaurant’s oil-water separators are supposed to be on private property not in the public right-of-way access.

Business establishments are required to submit plans for oil-water separators that must be approved by CUC, Variety learned.

The establishments cited have no approved plans for sewer oil and water separators.
