CUC needs $21 million

Included in this amount is the $1.2 million for the purchase of repair parts, overhauling of engines, professional power generation management and supervision of ongoing contracts; the $300,000 contract for the installation of new radiators; $3.894 million for the parts and equipment required to support the continuing rehabilitation effort, which include the overhaul work on a new auxiliary system; and $200,000 for phase 2 of a rate study which includes technical assistance for power, water and wastewater rate filing, representation and public hearings.

CUC also needs $15.8 million for renewable energy integration, purchase of additional parts, an oil master plan and the heavy fuel oil conversion in 2009 and 2010.

This amount includes $8 million for the additional parts required to support the balance of the rehabilitation of the engines; $1.2 million for the renewable energy integration for expedited integration, upgrade of interconnection facilities and net metering; $4.3 million for the oil master plan that includes the rehabilitation of tanks, piping, incinerator and bringing the power generation into compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s orders; and $7.5 million for the heavy fuel oil conversion, which includes air emission study, fuel tanks and handling systems, exhaust stack rehabilitation as well as auxiliary improvement to four engines at Power Plant 1, Saipan’s main source of power.

“I don’t know where we’ll get the money they need,” said a lawmaker who declined to be identified.
