CUC acting Executive Director Abe Utu Malae said they incurred losses from purchasing power on Rota.
CUC paid Rota Resort $0.56 per kilowatt hour and sold it for $0.28 per kwh to its customers, he said.
The two generator sets, which were pulled out from Power Plant 4, were officially commissioned on June 25 on Rota, Malae added.
Rota produces an average of 1.6 megawatts.
Malae said the two power generators — Mitsumi and Caterpillar — are producing 1 megawatt and 0.6 megawatt.
Despite the pullout of the two generators PP4 still maintains the desired power production, Malae s said.
PP4, which is run by the Pacific Marine Industrial Co., has a contract to produce 14 megawatts for CUC.
Malae said CUC decided to pull out the two generators from PP4 because of the shortage of power on Rota.
CUC, he said, plans to purchase two new power engines for Rota.
CUC will decide what to do with the generators from PP4 once the new engines are purchased, he added.
Malae said they have a standing agreement with Rota Resort to connect to CUC’s grid whenever there is a power shortage on the island.
CUC will also supply power to the Rota Resort if it experiences power problems, he added.
