Five 45-ft. poles were erected in the area between Power Plant 1 and the temporary depot of Aggreko’s transformer and generators.
Chris Middleton of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Pacific Lineman Training program supervised the installation of the “double deadend” poles for the 130 ft. primary conductors.
Robert M. Malate, a CUC power division engineer, said the post switch is a safety case that controls the electrical distribution of high-tension lines from the Aggreko units to Power Plant 1.
Gary Camacho, CUC power division acting manager, said the site preparation is on schedule.
“We are done with the preparation on our side so the Aggreko is now preparing with their program and are ready to be online by next week,” Camacho said.
CUC, he added, has addressed safety concerns involved in connecting the Aggreko units with the power plant.
According to Middleton, the CUC linemen did a great job in the training process.
He said the training program also teaches CUC linemen how to respond to an emergency situation.
The federally funded two-year training program allows CUC linemen to be certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, Camacho said.
Jesus T. Quitano, CUC’s power distribution supervisor, said the training program will give them additional skills in maintaining power lines.
