(CUC) — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation announced several significant developments during its regular board meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025. These initiatives aim to enhance operational efficiency, support employee growth, and strengthen CUC’s commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable services to the people of the CNMI.

The CUC board approved the implementation of a new compensation plan to support professional growth and encourage employees to pursue certifications as part of their career development. This initiative is a positive step forward in rewarding excellence and retaining CUC’s dedicated workforce, many of whom have been with the corporation for years and bring valuable institutional knowledge.

“Our employees are the backbone of our organization, and this initiative reflects our commitment to investing in their growth and development,” said Kevin Watson, executive director of CUC. “By fostering a supportive environment and adopting efficient policies, we’re taking steps to ensure we continue providing reliable and sustainable utility services to the community.”

Another key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by GHD Inc., CUC’s consultant, on the Integrated Resource Plan. The IRP serves as a long-term roadmap for CUC’s energy strategy, focusing on sustainable energy management and infrastructure development. The plan emphasizes the integration of renewable energy sources and the enhancement of grid resilience, underscoring CUC’s dedication to adapting to the evolving energy landscape

“This is an exciting time for CUC as we continue working toward a more sustainable energy future,” Watson said. “The IRP is a critical step in aligning our operations with global energy trends, ensuring that we are prepared to meet the growing energy needs of our community while prioritizing environmental stewardship.”

These developments reflect CUC’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities within the utility sector. By implementing progressive policies and prioritizing sustainability, CUC reinforces its commitment to delivering quality services and ensuring transparency in its operations.

CUC extends its gratitude to its employees, stakeholders, and the community for their continued support as the corporation works to advance its goals and vision for the future.
