CUC schedules another 4-hour power outage

Gary P. Camacho, CUC power division manager, said the replacement of the power poles is part of their efforts to improve the distribution of power supply on island.

The replacement of one air brake system in Tanapag at the Mobil gas station area will  be undertaken during the scheduled power outage on Feb. 28, he said.

“This is system maintenance for the affected feeders,” he said.

Camacho said the CUC is advising the community a week ahead of the scheduled power outage so that the people can prepare, especially for  water supply.

A power outage will also directly affect the water supply.

During the replacement operation, Camacho said, CUC linemen will perform vegetation line clearing for the primary line throughout Feeders 4 and 7.

“Because of the danger involved to the linemen working on or near high voltage power lines, the electrical power supply to Feeders 4 and 7 circuit will be temporarily de-energized from 6 a.m. through 10 a.m. to ensure safety for the crews,” he said.

This maintenance, he added, will coincide with the ongoing Pacific Lineman Training program funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The instructor, Chris Middleton, will be on the site to observe the operation, he said.

Although many areas of the existing electrical system are already aging, Camacho said, they can improve the distribution of power to the respective feeders by performing the required maintenance to the electrical grid.

The scheduled outage will affect the entire grid of Feeders 4 and 7 which cover portions of Lower Base, Sadog Tasi, Capital Hill, Kagman, portions of Papago, the Lower Base industrial area, north to Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque, As Matuis and Marpi.

Camacho said CUC apologizes for any inconvenience this power interruption will cause the community.

“We will continue to work diligently to minimize the interruption,” he said.
