Muna told Variety that the applications of at least four local residents who completed a technical course in U.S. are being considered.
“We have success in getting qualified locals,” he said in an interview on Thursday.
CUC will always try to hire locally first, he added.
Fitial earlier signed an executive order extending a state of emergency for CUC and allowing the agency to hire nonresidents.
The condition of CUC’s overworked personnel is extreme and their “excessive hours have resulted in inefficiencies, poor work quality and can lead to dangerous mistakes,” the governor added.
Muna said they already made an announcement for the hiring of 14 additional personnel and have received applications last week.
“We have to accelerate this process,” he added.
Variety learned that some workers from a private power firm are applying for CUC jobs.
